What we tested
Distinguish an exporter that can still be scraped from a database that is actually accessible, and verify alerting and recovery.
What we did
- Prepare a synthetic database and a monitoring account with limited privileges.
- Provision a datasource, an eight-panel dashboard, and a PostgreSQLDown rule.
- Stop PostgreSQL temporarily to test the alert, then start it again.
Test results
Four services were healthy in normal conditions. While PostgreSQL was stopped, exporter scraping still succeeded, but pg_up fell to 0 and the alert fired. After starting the database, pg_up returned to 1 and the alert resolved.
A local synthetic-data lab, not production monitoring. External notifications, SLA measurement, and real application workload testing have not been performed.
